Registration for summer camps begins February 1 and it looks like there will be a lot of great opportunities for campers of all ages. One such opportunity that I would like to draw your attention to is Jesus Crazy Camp for 5-6 grade and 7-9 grade youth (based on the grade the youth is going into) on July 2-6 at Blue Mountain Camp. The cost of this camp is $290; however, you can take advantage of an Early Bird discount of $25 if you register online by May 15th. Also, there is a sibling discount if two or more siblings are attending camp. The United Methodist Men offer a 50% scholarship for our campers. How great is that! I would love to see us take a large group from Waynesville UMC this year. See Pastor Bill Kenagy to learn more about this camp. 573-774-2299

While many congregations find themselves on a plateau or in decline it is safe to say that our congregation is not. We are growing and reaching out into our community and world. However, what if we could move from good to great? Would you be willing to let others take an honest look at our church and determine how we can move to great? HCI is a fairly new process that engages congregations for transformation. The healthy church initiative will offer our pastors and congregation a better future. The process offers hope to leaders of congregations that are looking to become more outward focused by preparing them for systemic change that will enable them to in our case continue to answer God’s call to reach out to new people with the Awesome news of Jesus Christ. The process includes:
Developing a new vision and the strategy for it’s communication & implementation
Motivating a congregation to embrace a new vision and mission
Developing resources, ideas and personnel to prepare for change
Embracing and implementing change
Embedding a new DNA into the life of a congregation
Providing new tools and training to be the church for the 21st century
Providing prescriptions for action
The Initiative involves coaching for the pastor and congregation, laity training, congregational assessment, a weekend intervention, accountability and goal setting, and evaluation of results. A trained coach will walk along with the congregation as they work to fulfill the prescriptions from the weekend intervention. We know that systemic change occurs as a result of hard work, but the gain far outweighs the pain. Once change has occurred, a whole new world of opportunity opens up and a congregation and its pastors can enjoy the abundant fruits and love of being an outwardly focused church bringing new people to Christ. The goal of HCI for the people of Waynesville
Let’s face it. In order to be vital in a fast paced world, every successful organization needs goals that are easily attainable, timely, simple to measure and and supportive of the organization’s overall mission.
Remember our goals from last year? 1. Worship with excellence. 2. House groups made available to everyone. 3. Enact the Accountable Leadership Board to unleash the congregation to do ministry. While these goals were achieved, we are by no means ready to drop them and move on. Rather we must always strive to enhance these goals that have been set into motion, as we continue to follow the mission that God has given us.
Following are goals for the remainder of the year through next June. How do you see yourself as taking an active part in achieving these goals? We all have a part.
Three Goals for Waynesville United Methodist Church:
I. Develop and implement a series of systems that will support the needs of our growing church in supporting the mission. These are:
a. Hospitality –
b. Communication –
c. Intentional Faith Development – “What’s the next step?”
d. Children’s Ministries
e. Develop tools that measure spiritual growth.
II. Seek and develop new leaders who will facilitate the implementation of our new systems so that these systems will be successful.
III. Achieve a rate of 80% congregational participation during HCI process so that our church and community will enjoy ownership of the prescriptions.
